TOWN OF SEDGWICK

SELECTMEN’S MEETING

March 27, 2014

 

            Opened the meeting and established that a quorum was present.  Selectmen present:  Neil Davis, Nelson Grindal, Victor Smith.  Also present:  Robert Jones, Treasurer Cindy Reilly, Assistant Barbara Grindle.

 

            Read and approved the minutes of the last meeting.

 

            Signed the treasurer’s warrant for $29,619.53.  Winter roads were the big expenses:  salt expense of $2,926.95, plowing contractor’s Webb’s Excavating $12,600 and Paul Carter $10,000, and Haskell Electric for $927.43.

 

            Town Clerk gave the selectmen papers for April 1 appointments.  There are a few vacant spots on the committees that will need to be filled.

 

            OLD BUSINESS:  Haskell Electric is done for the time being.  There are a few more lights to be installed, but they can wait for the new year starting in July.

            The Town Dock work is under control.

            The work in the cellar is in progress.  Theraseal panels will be installed on the walls before the insulation is put in because of dampness in the walls.  Checking and cleaning the furnaces, checking the lines and filters can wait until the fall before the heating season.  Assistant to start a file on work done.

            The selectmen are not interested in telling the county commissioners how to expand the work they have to do.

 

            NEW BUSINESS:  Sent letters to Representative Chapman and Senator Langley asking them to vote against Bill LD 1177 regarding town roads as it will cost the towns a great deal of money.

            Moved and seconded to vote in as Chairman of the Board of Selectmen the selectman whose position is up for election next, giving the board the most experienced selectman as the chairman.  Voted 3-0 to elect as the chairman the selectman sitting in the next seat to be up for election.  Elected Victor Smith as Chairman of the Board of Selectmen.  His present term of office is up in 2015.

           

CEO REPORT: CEO was attending a workshop on Land Use in Ellsworth.

 

There being no further business, it was moved and seconded that the meeting be adjourned.  Voted to adjourn the meeting at 6:55 pm.
