TOWN OF SEDGWICK
SELECTMEN’S MEETING
February 22, 2024

Opened the meeting and declared a quorum present. Selectmen present: Ben Astbury, Susan Ford, Colby Pert. Also present: CEO Duane Ford, Fire Chief David Carter, Assistant Barbara Grindle, (by phone Jerry Wetterskog).

There being no errors or omissions in the records of the last meeting, moved, seconded and voted 2-0 (Pert absent last week) to accept them as written.

Reviewed and signed the treasurer’s warrant for $138,687.41: Education $129,640.41; clearing:m/v $1,515.50; Versant $1,644.01; fire protection $635.52; general assistance $475; legal $906.50; administration $3,870.47.

CEO REPORT: Checked Pert camp on Stumpy Cove Road and sent him a letter listing his options for dealing with storm damage in the Shoreland Zone; looks like camp and shed have been moved out of the Shoreland Zone at the Peasley property on Black Pond, ramp and dock moved?; checked on the cleaning of the shore at Carter Point, the damage is being cleaned up and looking good; Cole from Salt Pond Lane checked in and asked about options regarding his property; reviewed and assessed the storm damage at the Pressman estate and discussed the difference between a repair and rebuild; email from John Kimball about a job at Walker Pond and he asked about the Brown status with DEP, will do a follow-up visit.

FIRE CHIEF UPDATE: The new rescue truck is working out well, there is a little more painting to do, getting the inside organized. Still need pants and coats out of the grant money, and there were 7 damaged helmets to be replaced. At an emergency call two of the volunteer firefighters performed CPR on a person, thereby saving a life. Will look into defibulators for the town office and town house.

DISCUSSION and/or ACTION ITEMS: 1) Audit Update –Tax Collector putting a great deal of time in checking for errors. Need auditors to come in and bring the ledgers for final checking.
2) March 1 Election Preparation – Astbury will start stoves so it will be warm to start the election process. Clerk to make sure there is propane for the heater. Vote for a moderator at 12:45 and voting for town offices will be from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m.

UNRESOLVED BUSINESS: Need new health officer, Astbury will check with someone; Jerry Wetterskog volunteered to be an alternate for the Planning Board; will come in to be sworn in by Town Clerk.

PUBLIC COMMENTS: Wetterskog asked about where we are in regard to fixing the basement.
