Comprehensive Plan Committee Meeting minutes 11/12/2024

Attendees: J Woodward, D Carter, R Doane, B Flagg, C Pert, D Ford, J Wetterskog, 10 members of the public
Discussion Items
- Provide public attendees reason 1993 comprehensive plan needs updating
- Summarize project process and project status to attendees
- Review 10/8/2024 minutes
- Committee and attendees’ discussion of Goals, Objectives, and Strategies
Public Services and Administration
Many survey issues regarding constant town hall hours, online payment services, and timely updating town website already addressed by select board and administrative staff
Request for town to establish a Facebook page discussed, however tabled because of Facebook data security risks
Need for controlling speed on village and rural roads
Note: select board looking at moving digital board around town roads Expansion of Fire Prevention presented by Chief Carter
Recreation and Public Spaces
Private property adjacent to Walker Pond beach and ramp make expansion of the facility unlikely if not impossible
- Provide signage to saltwater raccess at Billings Cove Ln, Shore Rd, Ferry Landing Rd, Carter Point Rd, Salt Pond, and Town Dock
- Work with Sedgwick Elementary to maintain hiking trai
- Work with BHHT to maintain hiking trails
- Explore possible bike trail(s) with BHHT
Note Followed up with G Fields and both Surry Forest and Meadowbrook Forest allow analog bikes.
Environmental, Open Space, Natural Resources
- Improve hazardous household waste Note JW to follow-up with HCPC
- Review and update if necessary shoreland zone ordinance
- Mitigate impact of climate change by creating Climate Change Cte or reviving CRP Cte
- Provide Sedgwick representative to Peninsula Tomorrow group
- Explore needs for Farmland, Watershed, and Viewshed ordinances
- Public voiced concerns regarding seaweed harvesting. D Carter referred attendees to Me DMR as governing body
Renewable Energy
- Explore need for Solar Farm Ordinance
- Review and, if necessary, update Wind Power ordinance
- Explore options for solar installations at town hall and Sedgwick Elementary if grant opportunities are available
- Discuss current solar farm location and operation–some attendees unaware of solar farm existence or the financial benefits to the town
- Explore EV level 2 charger installation at town office if grant opportunity is available
