SELECTMEN’S MEETING
November 7, 2019
Opened the meeting and established a quorum present. Selectmen present: Ben Astbury, Bob Publicover, Michael Sheahan. Also present: Don Buckingham, Leslie Schneider from the Budget Committee, Pat Egan, Kathy Kling from the Bicentennial Committee, Gerry Schneider, Jerry Wetterskog, Superintendent Chris Elkington, Clerk/treasurer Cindy Reilly, CEO Duane Ford, Assistant Barbara Grindle.
Read and approved the minutes of the last meeting.
Reviewed and signed the treasurer’s warrant for $54,868.73; $1,617.55 clearing:M/V, $245.75 clearing:I/F, $12 clearing:An. Welfare, $26 clearing: H/F, Town Office $32.75, Town Dock $195, Sludge $495, Snow $30,320.23(Webb), $7002.87 (salt), Fees $340, Administration: Salaries $6,608.42, Ballot Clerks $725, Misc. $483.93, Fire Dept. Salary $666.67, Misc. $321, Property Tax Overpay $5604.14.
CEO REPORT: Doing a lot of paperwork and catching up. Frank’s Flat septic and addition, left paperwork today; Sargentville lady called agent left and no work being done and she is leaving soon; Building Notification for a kitchen rebuild, plumber will do the paperwork. Sending paperwork for the Freedom of Information request.
DISCUSSION ITEMS: Bicentenial Committee- The committee is forming ideas, would like to involve the Church in the Village (The Old First Baptist Church) not only in the celebration but also in some fundraising to help with repairs; applying for celebration grant funds from the state. Would like to ring bells at Sargentville Chapel on March 15, 2020 the actual date of the State’s birthday. Selectmen are supportive and will do whatever they can to help.
Superintendent Update: Superintendent Elkington updated the work being done, not only to the physical building, but mostly by the staff and the curriculum. He is very encouraged by the way things are going. He also invited the budget committee and selectmen to the school board meeting on November 19 when GSA will be making a presentation.
Trio Conversion: Looking at other programs, still investigating the work and prices of the TRIO program. Wetterskog will investigate further, Assessing Agent Matt Caldwell will also be consulted as he works with the programs.
ACTION ITEMS: A very large thank you for the donation of time at the elections given by the Andersons, David and Jan thank you!
The Roadside Cleanup committee has started . They are hoping to coordinate efforts with all the peninsula town for the same day. Hoping for the beginning of May.
ASSISTANT’S REPORT: Letters for donation fund are going out tomorrow (Friday).
Downeast Webworks says there is plenty of room on the town website for the Marriage Book, hope the book can be onsite before the end of this year, joining the Cemetery Book that is already on the site.
ADJOURN: There being no further business, moved, seconded and voted 2-0 (Publicover left earlier) to adjourn the meeting at 8:13 p.m.
