SELECTMEN’S MEETING
March 2, 2017
Opened the meeting and declared a quorum at 6:06 p.m. Selectmen present: Ben Astbury, Neil Davis, Colby Pert. Also present: Steve Tobey, Fire Chief David Carter, Clerk/treasurer Cindy Reilly, CEO Duane Ford, Assistant Barbara Grindle.
Moved, seconded and voted to dispense with reading the minutes from the last meeting and accept them as written.
Reviewed and signed the treasurer’s warrant for $231,639.48; school expenses were $163,950.34, rent for the transfer station $26,367.50, snow contractor for $28571.43, administration for monthly salaries and FICA $7,316.89, annual town report books were $969.15 and surveying the Salt Pond property was $225.
OLD BUSINESS: Fire Chief Carter updated selectmen on the status of the new fire truck.
They want to purchase the chassis from a local company if possible, Colwell’s in Ellsworth does the work on the trucks so they would like to go with them. The prices are nearly the same everywhere they have looked.
NEW BUSINESS: Steve Tobey came in to discuss his property taxes which are listed as delinquent in the town report, but were paid on time and he had the receipts to show. His son Todd also had paid on time and was charged interest. Mr. Tobey stated he has taken care of these issues with the tax collector, but he very embarrassed by the situation. Selectmen to ask moderator announce those known to have been paid on time that were inadvertently listed as in arrears. Selectmen discussed protocol and Astbury will personally contact Toby after looking into the situation.
Special Town Meeting to be held on the two referendum questions that were inadvertently left off the warrant for the annual town meeting. Required 45 days notice with a public hearing at least 10 days before the meeting. Special town meeting will be advertised and held on April 21, with a public hearing to be held on April 6 at 7 p.m. at the town office. Davis moved, Pert seconded and voted 3-0 to post the two referendum articles and the open meeting regarding the Salt Pond access for a special town meeting for April 21 at the Town House. 12:45 to elect a moderator, voting from 1-6 on the referendum articles, Salt Pond access meeting to be held at 7:30 p.m. after the voting has been completed and counted.
DOT will host a public meeting on Tuesday, March 7, at the Sedgwick Town House to discuss the replacement of the Benjamin River Bridge. Astbury will open Town House and start the heater.
Selectmen met today with representatives from the Next Generation Foundation to discuss the proposal. Changes to the proposal were made and a new proposal will be put before the voters at the special town meeting on April 21st.
CEO REPORT: Answering legal questions regarding plumbing codes. A lot of recent sales in the area, a good sign.
ADJOURN: There being no further business, moved, seconded and voted 3-0 to adjourn the meeting at 7:20 p.m.
