SELECTMEN’S MEETING
June 2, 2016
Opened the meeting and established a quorum present. Selectmen present: Ben Astbury, Neil Davis, Colby Pert. Also present: Victor Smith, CEO Duane Ford, Clerk/treasurer Cindy Reilly, Tax Collector Elizabeth Gray, Assistant Barbara Grindle.
Read and approved the minutes of the last meeting with one change. The Harbor Committee meeting will meet on June 9 at 5 pm, not June 2.
Reviewed and signed the treasurer’s warrant for $16,601.44; shingling the hearse house, $2,659.18, mowing the town office and town house lawns, $210, salaries, including FICA taxes $9,284.66, fire department $260.
OLD BUSINESS: Astbury and Davis met with MDOT supervisor Shawn Davis and inventoried the sand and salt left over from this winter. S. Davis was pleased with the arrangement last year, would like to enter into a 2-year agreement with the town and is looking forward to a partnership with the town. Also discussed fuel access for town vehicles. Moved, seconded and voted 3-0 to explore a fuel account with MDOT. Astbury will contact them to investigate further. Davis will contact school board chairman to see if this could benefit the town taxpayers.
Selectmen discussed the snow contract, will work on it soon. Astbury will talk with Road Commissioner Carter to see if he is interested in participating in the discussions.
Town Dock project: CEO/deputy harbormaster discussed erosion issues at the town landing. He is checking on the permit by rule process for shoring up the banking on the south side of the landing.
NEW BUSINESS: Received a letter from the Next Generation Foundation. Davis called the town attorney to make them aware of a pending proposal to be submitted to the town. Moved, seconded and voted 3-0 to send a letter to the Foundation to acknowledge the receipt of their letter and set up a meeting with them.
Copy machines: Selectmen discussed options regarding a new copy machine due to outdated, repair-laden machines on hand now. After exploring all options, moved, seconded and voted 3-0 to purchase a new copier at a cost of $3,900 plus $420 for a service contract.
Davis will contact Snow’s Plumbing and Heating to discuss hot water options at the town office.
Discussions continuing on the Boston Post Cane. Looking for oldest citizen in town.
Pert to put a padlock on the cellar door.
Selectmen will meet Wednesday, June 8 at 9 am. Public Access Committee will meet Monday June 6 at 5 pm.
CEO REPORT: CEO Ford attended a planning board meeting in Deer Isle last week regarding shoreland zoning ordinances and a hearing on fireworks. He updated the board on ongoing projects, and upcoming inspections of several septic systems.
ADJOURN: There being no further business, it was moved, seconded and voted 3-0 to adjourn at 7:27 pm.
