Selectmen’s Minutes, November 12, 2015

TOWN OF SEDGWICK

SELECTMEN’S MEETING

November 12, 2015

Opened the meeting and declared a quorum present.  Selectmen present:  Ben Astbury, Neil Davis, Nelson Grindal.  Also present:  Robert Jones, CEO Duane Ford, Tax Collector Belinda Rooney, Treasurer Cindy Reilly, Assistant Barbara Grindle.

Read and approved the minutes from the last meeting.

Reviewed and signed the treasurer’s warrant for $88,879.87; fire department bills were $1,002.38, sludge $720, salt for winter roads $8,312.15 and education $76, 986.36.

TAX COLLECTOR/TREASURER REPORTS:  Treasurer provided a list of current rates at Camden National Bank for review.  She has prepared a letter for the assessor regarding an abatement.  She was given permission to order the current manuals for the tax collector, treasurer, assessments and lien from MMA.

Also moved, seconded and voted 3-0 to place an ad in the Ellsworth American regarding the special town meeting.  Will ask David Anderson to be present, and if elected, act as moderator of the

meeting.

OLD BUSINESS:  Jenn Paul would like to meet with the selectmen at the town dock.  Davis will set up a meeting, Thursday, Nov. 19, if convenient for her.

Davis asked CEO Ford to update the board on findings regarding the temporary appointment as LPI.  The state does not allow a grace period for training of the LPI so the town will have to appoint a licensed inspector.  Ford has one of the licenses, could have the second shortly, but will not be able to get licensed as indoor plumbing inspector until probably February.  Davis made a motion to rescind the motion made on November 5 to appoint Ford as temporary LPI, Grindal seconded the motion, voted 3-0 to rescind last week’s motion.  Discussed possible candidates for the temporary appointment; the position for a full-time LPI must be advertised.

CEO REPORT:  Ford visited with the Strong Brewing Company owners.  They are in constant contact with their attorney, and watching the minutes on the website to keep up to date.  Ford assured them that he was there to talk, not for any kind of service.  He discussed matters with them and they agreed that “if they have to” they will add to their current septic system. They consider their business to be a ‘cottage industry’ and stated that the waste product from the beer-making process is either biodegradable or will be going to the pigs for disposal.

ADJOURN:  There being no further business, the motion was made, seconded and voted 3-0 to adjourn at 6:48 pm.
