TOWN OF SEDGWICK

SELECTMEN’S MEETING

June 4, 2015

 

            Opened the meeting and established a quorum present.  Selectmen present:  Ben Astbury, Neil Davis, Nelson Grindal.  Also present:  Victor Smith, Robert Jones, Treasurer Cindy Reilly, Tax Collector Pat Gross, CEO Duane Ford, Assistant Barbara Grindle.

            Read and approved the minutes of the last meeting.

Reviewed and signed the treasurer’s warrant.

TREASURER, CLERK, COLLECTOR BUSINESS:  Signed a quit claim for a taxpayer.

If there is a call for the sealer or weights and measures, we have a phone number to call at the state level and they will have to send someone.  The legislature will take up the measure of this problem at their next session.

Selectmen will confirm insurance coverage at Walker Pond at their Wednesday meeting.  Clerk needs to let MMA know if Sedgwick is covering, if Brooksville is covering or if there is going to be a separate policy for the access.

            OLD BUSINESS:  Reviewed the salt bid of 500 tons.  We have to purchase 75% of our bid, but can purchase up to 125% if necessary.  Decided to bid for 325 tons.

            Town Dock Grant:  Selectmen met with DOT project supervisor at the office and then at the town dock.  Discussed the project and reviewed the guidelines of the grant.  No decision made on accepting the grant.

            Davis and Grindal met with the Public Access Committee.  Grindal will work with the town attorney on a preliminary agreement for the Mill Pond access.

            Planning to meet with the plow contractors next week to start work on next year’s contracts.

            CEO has been speaking with Tobey Woodward about trimming limbs and mowing the landfill site.  He is keeping up to date with A.J. Billings and will continue monitoring the site when the redemption work is started.  Will report to the selectmen and John James of DOT as things develop.

            Davis has spoken to Kim Allen, who is doing the mowing of the town office and the town house.

Grindal will call others to see about prices to do some repair jobs around the office.

            The school subsidy will be about $154,264, the projected amount before the late reports from the superintendent’s office.  All figures are dependent on the budget approved by the legislature.

                        NEW BUSINESS:  The Selectmen will attend the Walker Pond meeting in Brooksville Wednesday morning.

            Results from the two executive sessions were discussed.  The tax collector has resigned her office.  It was voted 3-0 to accept her resignation, effective June 30.  She will stay on until her successor is trained if necessary.  It was decided to ask the previous finalists and also the former tax collector if they were still interested in the position.

CEO REPORT:  Discussed the landfill site as reported above.

Discussed potential emergency preparation situation with civil emergency preparedness officer Royce Varnum.   There may be a plan for a generator for the dining area where residents could gather.  The units are all electric so when the power goes off, there is no heat and no cooking facilities.  Many of the residents are handicapped and all are elderly.

            He is reviewing site plans  and building notification forms from other towns, hoping to improve ours.

 The Planning Board public hearing for CHI is Tuesday the 9^th.
