TOWN OF SEDGWICK

SELECTMEN’S MEETING

March 12, 2015

 

            Opened the meeting and established that a quorum was present.  Selectmen present:

Ben Astbury, Neil Davis, Nelson Grindal.  Also present:  Lake Jeffrey, Victor Smith, Robert Jones, Road Commissioner Paul Carter, CEO Duane Ford, David Webb, Assistant Barbara Grindle.

 

            Read and approved the minutes of the last meeting.

 

            Examined and checked the treasurer’s warrant.  Signed the treasurer’s warrant for $7,710.33. Payroll and ballot clerk pay amounted to $2,360.17, town office equipment (phones and adding machines) was $701.88, salt for the roads another $1,910.25.

 

            PUBLIC BUSINESS AND COMMENTS:  Paul Carter and David Webb in to discuss winter roads, next year’s contract and a salt/sand shed.  Road Commissioner Carter also discussed next summer’s tarring of local roads.

            Jeffrey was in to see about a property dispute with a neighbor and the valuation on her home.  Referred her dispute to the forest warden and referred her valuation questions to the assessing agent.

            Another resident had questions about a piece of property.  How big does a lot have to be to be a ‘buildable lot’.  This was also referred to the assessing agent.

 

NEW BUSINESS:  After lively discussion, a new chairman was elected by the board.  Astbury moved, Davis seconded, Grindal abstained and Davis was elected.

Need to talk to Animal Control Officer about responding to complaints from the public.

 

OLD BUSINESS:  Grindal asked about using leftover town office repair funds to start the work on the renovations now.  We need to have stairs going to the basement and the handicap bathroom needs to be started.  Davis will talk with clerk about boxing up records in back room to put down in the basement.  The stairs will give access to the basement year round.  The bulkhead steps are dangerous to use and it is impossible to get to the bulkhead in the winter.  We have the only public bathrooms in the town of Sedgwick and there is no handicap accessed one.  Only one will be handicap accessible, the other will be renovated.  These are the same as when the kindergarten and first grade students were here with the exception of the toilets, which have had to be replaced.

 

CEO REPORT:  Attending Harbormaster school for three days next week.

Still monitoring work on Caterpillar Hill.

Advised David Carter, cutting at the Pressman property, to discuss with forest warden John Cousins about species to replant in place of the spruces brought down in the storm.

 

ADJOURN:  There being no further business, moved, seconded and voted 3-0 to adjourn the meeting at 8:16 pm.
