TOWN OF SEDGWICK

SELECTMEN’S MEETING

November 13, 2014

 

            Opened the meeting and established a quorum present.  Selectmen present:  Neil Davis, Victor Smith.  Also present: Tax Collector Pat Gross, Treasurer Cindy Reilly, Fire Chief David Carter, Ben Astbury, CEO Duane Ford, Robert Jones, Assistant Barbara Grindle.

 

Read and approved the minutes of the last meeting.

           

Signed the treasurer’s warrant for $114,175.24.  Paid approved donations of $38,082, school expenses of $10,781.84 (additional on warrant #9) and $62,695.01 (warrant #10).

 

TAX COLLECTOR/TREASURER/CLERK BUSINESS:  County tax estimate for the new budget and a letter telling us what those dues cover. 

Insurance questions about the hearse and a fire truck values, and road salt.  Hearse is irreplaceable, fire truck was second hand purchase for $2,000, and road salt damage insurance tabled.   

Updating bank signatures for the new tax collector. 

Thanksgiving and Christmas meeting days will be on the Tuesday before the holiday (11/25 and 12/23).

FEMA damage papers to be made out from the last storm.  FairPoint still has lines with trees on them.  Road Commissioner still cleaning up the sides of the roads, but power is back in most places.

 

OLD BUSINESS:   Carter and Astbury explained the benefits of using the cell tower on the Ridge.  The dispatch will have much better coverage than they have now because the equipment will be higher and there will be nothing to interfere with transmission.  The final draft will be signed as soon as Selectman Grindal is home from the hospital.  The three selectmen will sign the papers and the town clerk will notarize them so work can begin before the Thanksgiving holiday.  Astbury was thanked for the work he has done to get this accomplished.

 

NEW BUSINESS:  Assistant to write to FairPoint asking them to clear the lines in Sedgwick.

Chief Carter will contact Emergency Management Officer Varnum and set up a meeting with interested persons about warming centers.  The school was set up as a warming center but many people didn’t know about it.  

 

CEO REPORT:  A resident on Otter Cove Lane is putting up a building and needs a permit.

The Benjamin River Apartments have no back-up for the senior and handicap residents when the power goes off.  CEO is checking similar complexes to see what they have for back-up systems.

            Wrote a letter for the fire department to US Cellular regarding the Ridge Road tower.

            The letter to the Salt Pond resident was missent, got sent again.

 

            ADJOURN:  There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:35 pm.
